Kim Asar Gorge

Kim Asar Gorge is one of the most accessible and beloved hiking spots for Almaty locals. Located within city limits, it starts not far from the Medeu area and quickly leads into the tranquility of the mountains. From the very beginning of the trail, hikers are treated to picturesque scenery—pine forests, rocky slopes, and a lively mountain stream running through the gorge. It’s an ideal destination for a morning run or a relaxed weekend walk.

As you climb higher, the trail becomes more secluded and reveals panoramic views of Almaty and the surrounding mountain ranges. Wildlife is often spotted in the area, especially in the early morning—hares, foxes, and a variety of birds call this place home. In spring and summer, the gorge bursts with wildflowers, while in winter it turns into a peaceful snowy wonderland. Despite its proximity to the city, Kim Asar retains the charm and atmosphere of untouched mountain nature.
