Frequently asked questions

How far are these day trips from Almaty?

Most are 30 minutes to 2 hours from the city. The closest are Alma-Arasan and Medeo (about 30 minutes) and Big Almaty Lake and Issyk Lake (about an hour). The furthest are Charyn Canyon (~3 h) and Kolsai Lakes (~4-5 h), usually done as a long day or an overnight. All tours include round-trip transport from your hotel.

How do I get to these places?

The easiest way is a private tour with door-to-door transport from your Almaty hotel and back: many of these places have no convenient public transport, and the roads to Big Almaty Lake and Charyn can need a 4WD in places. We handle the driving.

What's included in the price?

Every tour includes a private English-speaking guide, round-trip transport from Almaty, lunch, national park fees, safety gear and professional photos.

Can I combine multiple day trips?

Yes. Kolsai Lakes + Charyn Canyon is our most popular combo (2 to 3 days). Big Almaty Lake + Bear Waterfall works as a single full day. Ask us about custom itineraries.

Which day trip is best for families with children?

Issyk Lake (easy, short), Medeo & Shymbulak (cable car, no hiking), and Nomad City (flat and interesting for kids). Big Almaty Lake is also family-friendly when road access is open.

What's the best time of year?

May to October for hiking and lakes. Charyn Canyon and Altyn-Emel are best in spring and autumn, as summer is very hot. Medeo works year-round, and hot springs are great in winter.
