Detailed Description

The route from Medeu to Almatau is one of the most popular trekking trails in the surroundings of Almaty. It begins at the Medeu sports complex and follows a scenic forest path that gradually ascends into the mountains. From the very first kilometers, hikers are treated to beautiful views of the Malaya Almatinka Gorge, especially stunning in the morning or on sunny days. The trail is well-marked and suitable for people with moderate physical fitness.

As you progress along the trail, you’ll pass through sections of mixed forest, cross small streams, and walk through alpine meadows until you reach the Almatau rest area. This spot is known for its spacious meadow, picturesque views of the surrounding mountains, and the opportunity to enjoy a picnic or even camp overnight. Depending on your pace, the hike takes around 2 to 3 hours one way, making it perfect for a morning trek or an active weekend outing.
