Assy Plateau

Assy Plateau is one of the most scenic and atmospheric places in the Almaty region, located at an altitude of around 2,800 meters above sea level. This vast high-mountain plateau stretches between the peaks of the Zailiyskiy Alatau and is known for its endless alpine meadows, crystal-clear air, and breathtaking views. In the summer months, herds of horses and sheep graze here, and local nomads set up traditional yurts, preserving the spirit of their ancestral lifestyle.

What makes Assy truly special is the blend of untouched nature and unique natural landmarks. The Assy River flows through the plateau, with its banks home to rare species of flora and fauna. The area is also home to one of Kazakhstan’s largest astronomical observatories — the Assy-Turgen Observatory — making it a destination of interest not only for travelers but also for scientists.

Assy Plateau is especially captivating during the summer, when temperatures are mild and the green expanses stretch endlessly into the distance. The route to the plateau goes through the Turgen Gorge. While the journey can be challenging, it is more than rewarded by the stunning landscapes and unforgettable atmosphere.
